Home Safely and Adapting

Thursday, August 18th, 2005

We are home now, and adapting to a new family member. Getting some rest in fits and starts, but that’s to be expected. Ron is great – eats well, sleeps pretty well. He’s tolerating Jane pretty well. She is fascinated with him, saying “Hi baby” and “Rwon”. You can see some more pictures here.

Home.

We are all home. Tired, but here. More pictures up tomorrow, I hope. Ron is sleeping in his bed (in the closet).

Ronald Arthur Sherwood

Tuesday, August 16th, 2005

Welcome to Number Two! He has a name now: Ronald Arthur Sherwood, born August 15, at 8:00 pm CDT. He tipped the scales at 7 lbs 13 oz, and stretched the tape to 18 full inches.

As my dad put it, his sister Jane was unimpressed. :-)

Mother and son are doing really well. You can see some pictures at Ron’s First Web Page.

Number Two Update

Friday, August 5th, 2005

I see Number Two has already hinted at our news today, but I’ll go ahead and make it clear:

We had an appointment with the doctor today, and wanted to update everyone on what he said. He had been having a surprising day, and we were no exception. Everyone is fine and healthy, just the baby is breech (his head is to the side instead of down). Rebecca said the baby felt funny to her, and the doctor checked, and he also thought things were a little unclear, so we had a sonogram (fortunately, he has a machine in his office). The nurse confirmed pretty quickly that Number Two’s head is off to the side. Since Jane was born by c-section, we are not candidates for a [insert fancy medical word for turning the baby] so unless he turns on his own, we will be having another c-section. We have another appointment on the 11th, and we’ll check his position again then. The doctor says the baby turns spontaneously in about 5% of cases like this. We have already requested a c-section to be scheduled on or about the 15th, (depends on availability). So, if things continue as they are now, we’ll be having a baby by the 15th. If he rotates into the proper position, we will be scheduled for the 22nd or so, because of the prior c-section.

In other news, Jane and NumberTwo’s cousin Taher Lynn Evers seems to be doing well and has come home from the hospital. Jane is looking forward to having fun with her first girl cousin!

Getting Cranky in Here

Friday, August 5th, 2005

It’s crowded in here and I’m not real happy about it. In fact, I’m getting kinda cranky about it. There seems to be more room if I turn sideways, so I think I’ll do that. Ah, that’s better. That head rush was getting pretty bad two. Now, if I could just get that doctor to quit poking me…

Apparently, he’s not happy about me being sideways, and so he wants to get me out sooner. Fine with me. This place is a little dark and bouncy at times.

Hair Cut

Hair Cut ResultsDuring the Hair CutBy popular demand, pictures of and during the haircut. Jane enjoyed the process until we turned the water off and tried to hold her head still.

“All Done”

Thursday, August 4th, 2005

So last night, I’m finishing up my Jamba Juice smoothie, and I slurp a little as I’m getting to the end. Jane was sitting next to me and said “All done”, and made the sign with her hands. I don’t know when/where she learned that one, but it surprised me. A minute later when I was enjoying the last bits, I made the noise again, and Jane did the same thing.
