Our funny girl!

Thursday, March 27th, 2008

During one of my conversations with Jane yesterday:

“Mommy, I’ve got a joke for you.  How many penguins does it take to change a lightbulb?”
“I don’t know. How many penguins does it take to change a lightbulb?”
“Ten!”
“Ten?  Why does it take ten?”
“Because that’s the right number.”  (Followed by Jane’s infectious laugh.)

Show and Tell

Wednesday, February 20th, 2008

Every Wednesday Jane’s class has show and tell for the letter of the week.  The children are encouraged to bring items that start with the letter they are studying that week.  Unfortunately, I’m not very good at remembering to send something with Jane to share.  Today I forgot to send something that started with ‘R’, but that didn’t deter Jane.  After school, Ms. Christie told me that at show and tell time Jane said she had something to share.  She said, “It’s my brother, Ron!  He starts with R!”  So they walked down to his class and brought him in for show and tell.  Not that the story needs to get any cuter, but when I picked up Ron, he was very pleased to inform me that he got to go visit Jane’s class today.  What great kids!

Allergies

Wednesday, January 23rd, 2008

So my best guess is that Jane heard somewhere, probably at school, about allergies. However, her understanding seems to be that an allergy is anything that bothers you or you don’t want at that moment in time. For example, on Saturday, she told me, “School gives me the allergy.” Additionally, when we had some friends over recently and their daughter and Ron were playing together rather loudly Jane came over to me and said, “Those two-year olds! They give me the allergy!”

More Janeisms

Sunday, January 6th, 2008

Yesterday, during nap time, Jane complained that Ron was keeping her awake:

“Ron keeps introducing me”

Later, Mommy was reading Wynken, Blynken, and Nod to her, and at the point where the story reveals who Wynken, Blynken, and Nod are, at the climax of the book, where the kid should be getting sleepy, Jane asked brightly, referring to the illustration,

“What’s the cat’s name?”

Boots

“Daddy, why did you bring my boots downstairs?”

“Because they were upstairs.”  [The master suite is the only thing upstairs]

“Oh. Daddy, I want to wear my boots.”

“Ok, you can wear your boots.”

“Daddy, I want to wear my black shoes.”

“Oh?”

“Yeah, I changed my princess shoe mind and I want to wear my black shoes now.”

Christmas Time is Here

The two oldest in front of the tree after decorating it.  They had cookies too, so that’s what’s on Ron’s face.

Jane And Ron

Jane, Ron and Tree

The tree was from Mainstay Farms, where you can cut your own, but they didn’t have any in the species we liked.  So we bought a precut one from their barn.  Turns out it came from North Carolina near where my parents have a place in the mountains.  The kids had a great time playing around the trees, digging in the dirt, playing around, and going down the 100 ft slide!  No pictures, because I forgot my camera.  Oh well.

The ornament in the background is a baby picture of her.

Sunday, November 4th, 2007

This morning, Jane wasn’t moving very fast.  She was not keen on the idea of getting out of bed.
“Daddy, I’m feeling sick.”

“Oh, what’s wrong?”

“I’m sick.  But I’m not sick in the stay in bed and lie down kind of sick.”

“Oh, what kind of sick are you?”

“I’m the walk and stand up kind of sick.”

[For the record, she was fine after breakfast.]

“Oh, she’s wearing Elmo.”

[The story: We watch Dancing with the Stars with our kids. Last week, one of the competitors wore a yellow outfit. A blog my wife and I read, Snark Raving Mad, blogged that the competitor in question was wearing Big Bird, which we found amusing, and thought it fit. As we were laughing about that this week while she performed, Jane asked what we were laughing at. She then looked at the tv, and made her statement about Elmo (Elmo isn't wearing black in that picture). To complete the circle: last night, while handing out candy at a friend's house, a young child came by wearing an Elmo costume. ABC wouldn't let me link to the pictures in context on the DWTS page.]

New Clothes

Tuesday, October 16th, 2007

Yesterday, the kids wore some new clothes to school:

Jane picked out her socks and put them on herself.

Jane Shoes

Ron had a new shirt, but this was the only pic where he wasn’t blurry from how fast he was moving.

Oh and the rain crumbs were back yesterday.
