I had meeting with my women’s group at church today. When I picked up Jane and Ron from childcare after the meeting, one of the workers informed me that Ron sang a song for everyone today. Since it was a song that he made up himself, no one else knew the words. After it was over, Jane informed the worker that she knew the song because she lives with Ron. As we were walking to the car, Jane told me more about Ron’s song. She said, “It’s a song about race cars, but it’s kind of God-ish because he wanted it to be appropriate.”

A New Song
Tuesday, April 28th, 2009Sharp Ron
Wednesday, January 21st, 2009Tonight, Jane was working on some homework from her preschool. She had to color the items that began with the letter “p”. Ron was sad that he didn’t have any homework (that won’t last long). I was able to find some worksheets on the internet that had a similar task: color the animals that start with the letter “p”. When I checked on him, I noticed he was coloring all of the animals. I decided to see if he could figure out which animals began with “p”, the conversation went something like this:
“Hey Ron, which animals start with ‘P’?”
“‘P’ is for ‘pig’!”
“What about this animal?”
“I don’t know what that is.”
“It’s a penguin. What letter does p-p-p-penguin start with?”
“‘P’!”
“What about this ‘puppy’? What letter does p-p-p-puppy start with?”
“‘D’!”
“P-p-p-puppy? Puppy starts with ‘d’?”
“Yes! Puppy starts with ‘D’”
[We went around a few times.]
“No, puppy starts with ‘p’.”
“Puppy starts with ‘d’, its ‘dog’!”
Overheard
Tuesday, January 6th, 2009Jane and Ron are sitting together at the table coloring. I just overheard Ron say, “Jane, look at me! I’m so cute! That’s what mama says.”
Daddy love
Thursday, September 25th, 2008As you would expect, our children adore their Daddy. When he comes home he is enthusiastically greeted by all three. In fact, Peter cheers everytime he sees his Daddy walk in the room. This morning Ron was particularly sweet when he was saying goodbye as Daddy was leaving for work. I overheard him say, “Bye, Daddy. I’m really gonna miss you.”
Ron logic
Thursday, September 18th, 2008Today at lunch, I caught Ron dunking his sandwich into his drink. I told him not to do that because sandwiches are for eating, not for putting in our cups. A minute or so later he began explaining to me that he needed to dunk his lunch, because his sandwich was thirsty.
Happy Birthday Ron!
Saturday, August 16th, 2008Visitors
Friday, April 18th, 2008Today was a friend’s birthday, and they needed some baby sitting. Fortunately for them, we got the email about the need right after Jane said, “I miss my friends Isabella and Sophia. When can they come over again?”

So they had fun. Ron did too, but he was the odd man out (literally!). Two band-aids and several hours later, everyone was rather tired when their parents came to pick them up.
Peter lives here too, so here’s a pic from tonight. I was trying out a new flash.

Sleeping: Boys vs Girls
Tuesday, April 15th, 2008Tonight, I came home from a meeting and the kids were already in bed. The boys were out, Peter face down and snoozing. Ron was in a pseudo victory position (victory position: is where they have their arms raised over their heads, similar to the touchdown signal from football). In one hand was his current favorite blue race car (a hot wheels type), and in the other, was “King”, a toy version of “The King” character from Cars. Nearby were a couple of train engines from our Thomas collection (I’m not sure which ones). The cars are the current favorite toy – so much so that when they were forbidden at the dinner table during dinner, fits were thrown and appetites diminished.
Checking on Jane found her awake, and chatty. “Hi Daddy.” “Hi Jane.” We chatted about stuff for a bit, and then she said, “Mommy found my blankie. It’s small tho, and square, and soft. [hugs it] But it’s mine, and I love it.” She is in her own room, and loving it. We bought her a lamp for her room, which she has been really excited about. She helped to pick it out from Target, and has been really good about using it without playing with it. We let her go to bed and read for a while before turning her lamp off and going to sleep.
Helpful Ron
Thursday, March 27th, 2008“Mommy, Mommy! Peter spit up in the kitchen.”
“Where?”
“Right there!”
“Where? By the fridge, by the oven, or by the sink?”
“Right there, by the floor.”
Show and Tell
Wednesday, February 20th, 2008Every Wednesday Jane’s class has show and tell for the letter of the week. The children are encouraged to bring items that start with the letter they are studying that week. Unfortunately, I’m not very good at remembering to send something with Jane to share. Today I forgot to send something that started with ‘R’, but that didn’t deter Jane. After school, Ms. Christie told me that at show and tell time Jane said she had something to share. She said, “It’s my brother, Ron! He starts with R!” So they walked down to his class and brought him in for show and tell. Not that the story needs to get any cuter, but when I picked up Ron, he was very pleased to inform me that he got to go visit Jane’s class today. What great kids!
