Visitors

September 30th, 2008

We’ve had lots of fun friends over lately. First, our friend Michelle visited last week. She works overseas, but is visiting the states for a while.

Then today my cousin Deanne visited. The kids call her “Aunt” Deanne, because that seems more respectful. They had fun playing ball in the backyard while I grilled chicken. Then after dinner, they played Candy Land.

"Aunt" Deanne and the kids play Candy Land.

In other fun news, we’ve now sold our house, and have to find a new place to live in 30 days. Fun fun fun!

Daddy love

September 25th, 2008

As you would expect, our children adore their Daddy.  When he comes home he is enthusiastically greeted by all three.  In fact, Peter cheers everytime he sees his Daddy walk in the room.  This morning Ron was particularly sweet when he was saying goodbye as Daddy was leaving for work.  I overheard him say, “Bye, Daddy.  I’m really gonna miss you.”

Ron logic

September 18th, 2008

Today at lunch, I caught Ron dunking his sandwich into his drink.  I told him not to do that because sandwiches are for eating, not for putting in our cups.  A minute or so later he began explaining to me that he needed to dunk his lunch, because his sandwich was thirsty.

Janeism-Ronism

August 26th, 2008

They combined to pull this one off:

Me: “After quiet time, we’ll get back in the pool.”

Ron: “With Grammy and Gram[p]y?”

Me: “Oh that would be fun, but they’re too far away to come.”

Jane: [with a measure of "those crazy grandparents" in her voice] “What, are they in Singapore again?”

Happy Birthday Ron!

Ron had fun on his birthday yesterday. He got to watch “Cars” – his favorite movie, his friends Hannah and Micah came over, and he got cake!

Blowing out the candles.That\'s a three on top, not an \'E\'.Post candles, the fingers broke through and checked the cake.Jane likes the icing.

The End of the Explorer

August 15th, 2008

A couple of weeks ago, we sold my explorer. I’d had it 15 years now, and it still ran well, but it was time to replace it. Rebecca didn’t trust it, and 15 years and 210,000 miles is pretty good for a car.

Since the Explorer was such a big part of our life (it was cold the day I proposed to Rebecca, so we climbed in the Explorer, and I proposed there), I thought we should take a family portrait in the back. So, I set up the camera and some flashes, and all six of us climbed in.

Our own Cookie Monster

July 23rd, 2008

Yesterday, Jane wanted to make a special treat of Snickerdoodles for her Daddy.  So while the boys were napping we baked cookies.  Later in the afternoon, all the kids got a bite of cookie, to make sure they tasted okay.  Peter approved greatly!  He begged for more, but I said no.  He tried demanding more, but that didn’t work either.  I moved the cookies from the cooling rack to a tupperware.  I didn’t put the lid on because some of the cookies were still cooling.

About 45 min. later, I looked up to see Peter with what looked like two pieces of bread.  Since he has been known to steal partially eaten food from the trashcan, my first thought was that he had been in the trash again.  However, I quickly realized that it couldn’t be anything from the trash; then I suddenly realized that he must have gotten cookies.  Peter must have realized the instant I figured it out, because he took off running with his cookies.  Needless to say he was quite upset that I stole his treasure.  When I walked into the kitchen I figured out what happened.  The Tupperware container had been hanging off the counter edge by about an inch.  Peter must have worked hard and on his tippy toes to get the container to fall off of the counter, spilling cookies all over the floor.  As I picked them up I found more with bites taken out.  We have no doubt of Peter’s determination when he has a goal in his sights.

Georgia in July

We had a great time in Georgia for our family reunion.
